Frequently Asked Questions
The PATH train and the New York City Subway both support “tap to pay.” If you have a wallet set up on your phone, you can just tap to enter. Otherwise, you can tap a credit card that has a chip in it.
Tickets for the NJTransit trains can be purchased on the NJ Transit app or at kiosks at the station.
Tickets for the Light Rail can be purchased at the kiosks at the station.
From the Airports
Option 1: AirTrain & NJ Transit
1. Follow the signs toward the AirTrain. Purchase a ticket from Newark Airport to Newark Penn Station on the app (and activate it) or at a ticket machine. Price: $12.30.
2. Take the AirTrain to the Newark Liberty International Airport Train Station.
3. Take NYC-bound train for 1 stop to Newark Penn Station (NOT New York Penn Station).
4. Follow signs to PATH Train section of the station.
5. Take the PATH train toward WTC to Grove Street (3 stops) or Exchange Pl (4 stops). Price: $3.00
Option 2: Taxi / Uber / Lyft

Option 1: Jamaica AirTrain
1. Take the AirTrain to Jamaica Station (last stop). Price: $8.75.
2. Walk to Sutphin Blvd-Archer Avenue-JFK Airport subway station. Price: $3.00.
3. Take the E train toward World Trade Center (last stop).
4. Walk to World Trade Center PATH station in the Occulus mall. Maps link.
5. Take the PATH train toward Newark to Exchange Pl (1 stop) or Grove Street (2 stops). Price: $3.00.
Option 2: Howard Beach AirTrain
1. Take the AirTrain to Howard Beach Station (last stop). Price: $8.75.
2. Take A train toward Manhattan and exit at the Chambers St statin (24 stops). Price: $3.00.
4. Walk to World Trade Center PATH station in the Occulus mall. Maps link.
5. Take the PATH train toward Newark to Exchange Pl (1 stop) or Grove Street (2 stops). Price: $3.00
Option 3: Taxi / Uber / Lyft
This will be the most expensive option. Estimated taxi fare is about $160 due to tolls, but will be a flat rate negotiated with your driver at the start of the trip. Learn more about JFK taxi pricing here.
Option 1: Q70 or Q33 Bus
1. Follow the signs to the bus stop and take the Q70 or Q33 bus to Roosevelt Av/74 St subway station. Price: $3.00.
2. Walk to Sutphin Blvd-Archer Avenue-JFK Airport subway station. Price: $3.00.
3. Take the E train toward World Trade Center (last stop).
4. Walk to World Trade Center PATH station in the Occulus mall. Maps link.
5. Take the PATH train toward Newark to Exchange Pl (1 stop) or Grove Street (2 stops). Price: $3.00.
Option 3: Taxi / Uber / Lyft

From the Train or Bus Stop
If you are taking Amtrak or NJ Transit to Newark Penn Station, this is the best way to get into Jersey City.
Option 1: PATH Train
1. Enter Newark Penn Station.
2. Follow signs to PATH Train section of the station.
3. Take the PATH train toward WTC to Grove Street (3 stops) or Exchange Pl (4 stops). Price: $3.00
Option 2: Taxi / Uber / Lyft
There is not a taxi stand at Newark Penn Station, but taxis, car services, Uber, and Lyft can all pick up at Newark Penn.
If you are taking NJ Transit to Secaucus Junction, this is the best way to get into Jersey City.
Option 1: via Newark Penn Station
1. If not transferring from another train, use the NJ Transit app to buy a ticket (and activate it) from Secaucus Junction to Newark Penn Station. Price: $4.95
2. Go to Track B. You will need to scan your ticket to go through the gate.
3. Take either an NEC train toward Trenton OR an NJCL train toward Long Branch for 1 stop to Newark Penn Station
4. At Newark Penn Station, walk toward the PATH section of the station.
5. Take the PATH train toward WTC to Grove Street (3 stops) or Exchange Pl (4 stops). Price: $3.00
Option 2: via Hoboken Terminal
1. If not transferring from another train, use the NJ Transit app to buy a ticket (and activate it) from Secaucus Junction to Hoboken Terminal. Price: $3.55
2. Go to Track E, G, or H. You will need to scan your ticket to go through the gate.
3. Take either a MAIN train on Track E, BERG train on Track G, or PASC train on Track H for 1 stop to Hoboken Terminal.
4. At Hoboken Terminal, follow the signs for the PATH station underground and take the PATH train toward Journal Square (JSQ) to Grove Street (2 stops). Price: $3.00
5. Alternatively, you can walk from Hoboken Terminal.
If you are coming from New York Penn Station, Moynihan Train Hall, or FlixBus, this is the best way to get into Jersey City.
1. Walk east along 32nd or 33rd Street from 8th Avenue to 6th Avenue.
2. Look for the signs to the PATH train at 32nd St and 6th Avenue near Greeley Square. Take the stairs or elevator underground to the PATH train station.
3. Take the PATH train toward Journal Square (JSQ) to Grove Street (7 stops). Price: $3.00.
If you are arriving via bus to Port Authority Bus Terminal, this is the best way to get into Jersey City. (Note: if you are arriving on FlixBus, see instructions from Moynihan Train Station)
1. Follow the signs to subway from Port Authority and enter the Port Authority or Times Square subway stations (they are connected). Price: $3.00.
2. Follow the signs for the N/Q/R/W lines (yellow circles).
3. Take a Downtown & Brooklyn-bound N, Q, R, or W train for 1 stop to 34th St-Herald Square.
4. Follow the signs for the 32nd St exit / PATH Train. Exit through the turnstiles and follow signs for the PATH Train.
5. Take the PATH train toward Journal Square (JSQ) to Grove Street (7 stops). Price: $3.00.
